There was a great resurgence for ‘90s style guitar-driven alt-rock between 2014-2016 that made some waves among SPIN and Stereogum readers at the time but wasn’t exactly a movement or scene defined by an infamous name like “chillwave” and it got less attention than the wave Vivian Girls and Best Coast were part of a few years prior. Mostly short-lived outifts like Chumped, Tacocat, Childbirth, Girlpool, and Slutever were all making some of the best rock during this time, and other than a chunk of these acts between from the west coast and most of them having women or nonbinary folks on the mic, the only thing they really had in common was making good music with relatively traditional guitar-bass-drums lineups.
